This blood pressure range puts her in a 95th percentile as for the average for her age group which is diagnostic of hypertension (CDC.gov, 2008). Also, she has family history of heart problems. At 50 years old, her father died of a heart attack and her aunt and uncle had cardiac bypass surgery. Also, her grandmother has died from stroke at 67 years old. In addition, my client is at 75 percentile for height and 95 percentile and above for weight. According to the Height and Weight Measurements for Girls, she is proximately 66 inches tall and weights 183 lbs. with a body mass index of 30 (95%) (as cited in Hockenberry & Wilson p.) . She is overweight, has high blood pressure and has family history of heart disease which puts her at a increased risk for the development of heart problem and associated with it morbilitis and mortalities. Yet, she doesn’t want to accept the fact that she is at the risk for the development of these conditions and is unmotivated to change her diet and loss the weight.

Three significant learning needs
For my patient’s priority learning need, I have chosen to educate her about non-pharmacological methods for weight and blood pressure reduction. She is overweight with a BMI of 30 and blood pressure of 150/90 mmHg. These values are pretty concerning and can lead to many additional health disorders like type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome as well as cardiovascular problems. However, thought the use of my project she will be able to control her weight and blood pressure. She would understand and incorporate into her life a healthy diet and physical activities.
