...Wendy Chen Yu-Kyeong Shin Sabrina kwok CAD 410 Group Project A child’s self-esteem and social skill are an essential to their development and lifelong characteristic. Building self-esteem in children is one of the most important contributions to their mental health. Children with good self-esteem usually have the following characteristics: act independently, assume responsibility, take pride in their accomplishments, tolerate frustration, handle peer pressure, and attempt new tasks and challenges. Anyone who influence the child on a daily bases should watch what they say. Kids are very sensitive to adults’ words. Remember to praise the child not only for a job well done, but also for effort. But be truthful to the child because they will know if you mean it. It's important for care providers to identify children’s irrational beliefs about themselves, whether they're about perfection, attractiveness, ability, or anything else. Avoid criticism that takes the form of ridicule or shame. Blame and negative judgments are at the core of poor self-esteem and can lead to emotional disorders. ROCK collaborates with many community organizations which support their goal and activities. Community Helpers will join ROCK to support the younger children in the community group. ROCK focuses on activities dealing with sports, where Community Helpers will focus more on encouraging children to give back to their communities. We will teach the children about the environment and how they can make a difference. Also, planning a big event will take a couple of months for a large community service project. The program Community Helpers focus on serving children from low income families in San Francisco.
