...As technology grows, the capability of people to use it for cheating seems to grow at an alarmingly rapid rate. Students are finding more and more ways to use technological advances to their (supposed) advantage, while teachers and professors are trying to increase the use of technology to catch these new hi-tech cheaters. People who are abusing these increasing technological capabilities seem to be gaining acceptance amongst the student populations of colleges and universities nationwide. While using technology for cheating may be easier; it is unethical and unfair because it creates an advantage over students who do not cheat.”
There is more technology and easier accessibility to students today than ever before. Furthermore, the barriers that were once in place to protect against cheating have been removed because of the availability of technology. The constant improvement in technology has made it very easy to fall into the habit of cheating. “Our society has made technology very useful and very accurate to support our many lifestyles” (Jennifer Rossman (2008)). Instant messaging, bibliographic software and many other resources are being used for cheating. Even though some of these cases of cheating are caught by the professors it is not always dealt with or even reported. According to Jennifer Rossman, some professors choose not to report incidents of academic dishonesty.
Types of Technology
Many examples can be shown of different types of technological cheating. The use of the internet itself can be used for several types of cheating. Many students acquire papers online from different sources.
