In his earlier filmmaking years, he was known for his flashy camerawork, but lately, he has evolved his flashy camera work more so with new digital editing technologies. Top Gun demonstrates his camerawork using lighting effects to set the mood, and really shines with supersonic aerial footage of fighter jets(Stevens). In Man on Fire, every scene is shot from a plethora of angles, and then edited to be very “jumpy”(Brown). The camera work in Man on Fire really changes the movie, and takes it to another level. Also, the filming in Top Gun was completely revolutionary for its time. Tony Scott is always on the cutting edge of camera techniques and technology.
Born in Stockton-on-Tees in North East England, Tony Scott's first jump into filmmaking was not from behind the camera, but rather in front of it. At the age of sixteen, Tony appeared in Boy and Bicycle, a short film marking the directorial debut of his then twenty-three-year-old brother Ridley(Statham). He followed in his older brother's footsteps, studying at Grangefield School, West Hartlepool College of Art and Sunderland Art School, the latter for a fine arts degree. He subsequently graduated from the Royal College of Art, fully intending to become a painter(Blair). It was only the success of his older brother's television commercial production company, Ridley Scott Associates, RSA, that turned his attentions towards film. Scott made his feature debut in 1983 with the modern vampire story The Hunger, starring Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie, and Susan Sarandon(Statham).
