Our ancestors, who sometimes face a brutal, uncompromising environment, probably recognized that they must cope with a constantly changing and unpredictable world. A world that we “modern people describe as “stressful”.
Nursing students are valuable health care resources. Detection of potential depression among nursing students is crucial since depression can lead to low productivity, lessen quality of life, and suicidal ideas. Identifying factors affecting depression among students can help nursing educators to find ways to decrease depression.
Student perception of high stress levels can lead to poor academic performances, depression, attrition and serious health problems. Methods to reduce student stress often include effective time management, social support, positive reappraisal, and engagement in leisure pursuits. Therefore, studying student stress and the methods students use to deal with it can have important implications for higher education administrators. Although students cannot avoid these stressors, their ability to adjust to demands and cope with these stressors are important in achieving success in the college academic and social environments.
Existing evidence suggests that nursing students have high levels of stress and that counselling and other support services should be made available to them in order to meet each nurse's skills and ability to care and become professionals eventually. This study identifies stressors among students in a particular class; develop specific responses to help deal with the stressor and present diversion from the stressor.
