The main character in this book is Rayford Steele. He is an airplane pilot and has a wife and son named Raymie Steele. His wife and son have come to know the Lord, but Rayford has not come to find the Lord yet. Rayford is a strong man who is willing to do what it takes, but he can also be caring and compassionate.
They story begins on an airplane when suddenly people start to disappear and leave nothing but their clothes. People are confused about what has happened to their loved ones. Rayford Steele is the pilot of the plane and he gets a message saying “you must land the plane immediately because of all these disappearances around the world.” Once he landed the plane Rayford thought “is my family still on earth”, and Rayford felt guilty knowing his wife and son may not be on the earth. After hours of confusion passes, Rayford makes his way home to only find his wife and son had disappeared. Later Rayford called his daughter Chloe to tell her the terrible news, and to tell her to come home. They talked and remembered getting told by many people about the Rapture. They talked and said “is it too late for us to go to give our lives to God?” Later that day Rayford and Chloe went to New Hope Village Church. When there they found one of the workers named Bruce Barnes. Bruce was accepting non-Christians to come to the church and find out about the Rapture, and hopefully accept the Lord. At the church Rayford and Chloe met a journalist named Cameron “Buck” Williams. The three of them made a Bible study with Bruce to learn all they can about the tribulation period. In this Bible study they learned about the Antichrist and found out about when he is coming, what he is going to do and what will he look like.
