Although tattoos have risks, and precautions, people have many reasons why they get tattoos and two main reasons some people get them are for spiritual and fashion reasons. Tattoos are popular in most parts of the world, particularly in North America, South America, Japan, and Europe. People refer to tattoos as body art, ink, tats, work, and art.

A tattoo is a permanent puncture wound that is made deep in the skin with a needle and ink. Tattoos are injected in to the second deep layer of the skin, which is called the Dermis. A tattoo does hurt but the pain level depends on the person. Some tattoos are done home made which some might call it “the poke and stick”, manually, and with a tattoo machine. The poke and stick is usually home made, and done by unprofessional artists with a sewing needle. Majority of tattoo parlors are using the tattoo machine, which is a hand held electric instrument. The tattoo machine uses a tube and needle system, on one end of the tattoo machine it has a sterilized needle that is attached to tubes that has ink inside. The ink is used for color in the tattoo and to decorate the tattoo.

Tattoos are for anyone. There is no limit as to whom or when people should get them. Tattoo Parlor’s requires that anyone under the age of 18 years old be accompanied by an adult, or get permission from a legal guardian. The purpose for tattoos is for different reasons. People get tattoos for cultural reasons, spiritual reasons, religious reasons, fashion statements, cosmetic reasons; gang related reasons, sentimental-memorial reasons as well as traditional reasons.
