...world and affects every individual. Although sometimes stress can be neutral or even positive, the overabundance of stress in the modern world gives stress a negative connotation. Concepts of stress can be traced as far back as written science and medicine and symptoms can vary between cognitive, behavioral, physical, and emotional. If stress gets out of hand it can turn into a burnout which is characterized by long term exhaustion.
Stress can impact many aspects of daily life and is extremely prevalent in the job force. Some things that can affect stress on the job are the physical layout of the environment, boring or tedious tasks and duties, confusion between superior and employee, too much or too little job training, and much more. Employees can be affected by stress in many different ways, two of the most common are financial and health problems. However, companies can also take the initiative to reduce this stress for their employees by promoting teamwork, creating flexible schedules or even train people how to recognize and cope with stress.
Stress can be defined as, “the result of any emotional, physical, social, economic, or other factors that require a response or change. (Gordon,2007).” Stress in the workplace can have negative and positive impacts on efficiency or productivity. Too much stress can lead to serious medical and social issues that can slow employees’ performance, but too little stress can keep the employee from staying motivated. “Employees may feel like they need to work for as long and hard as possible, or at optimum performance, all the time.
