...dependant upon performance-enhancing drugs to help them produce higher quality results than what an athlete is capable of naturally. Athletes use performance-enhancing drugs without knowing all the side effects that can occur. Many of these athletes are role models to younger athletes and influence their decisions on how to overcome their own obstacles. There are many examples of athlete’s using Performance-Enhancing Drugs, as they find them selves trying to make it as a professional athlete and trying to break records. Athletes are making more money in today’s society and they often feel the continual pressure to produce for the fans leading them to long-term addiction. In this paper the following three questions will be addressed.
1. What are the many different health effects from the usage of Performance-Enhancing Drugs?
2. How younger athletes look upon their role models as examples?
3. What are the affects of long-term addiction to Performance-Enhancing Drugs?
There are many different health affects that both males and females can suffer while taking Performance-Enhancing Drugs, along with the affects that my continue to occur after the usage of Performance-enhancing drugs. Some of the most common affects that occur in males today are Prominent Breast, baldness, shrunken testicles, a higher voice, and Infertility (Taking Performance-enhancing, 2006). Women can often suffer from different side affects than a man does. Side affects for a woman can include a deeper voice, an enlarged clitoris, increased body hair, and an increased appetite (Taking Performance-enhancing, 2006).
