Socrates

...was a Greek philosopher and is considered as one of the founders of Western philosophy. Although he did not write down any of his ideas while he was alive, we can find out many interesting things of him through his students Plato and Xenophon. After he died, they wrote down some of what Socrates had said.
II. BODY
Socrates did not write philosophical texts. Our knowledge of his life and his work is based on writings by his students. According to Plato, “Socrates' father was Sophroniscus and his mother was Phaenarete, a midwife. Socrates married Xanthippe, who was much younger than him. They had three sons, Lamprocles, Sophroniscus and Menexenus.” In 399 BC, the Athenians got mad at Socrates for what he was teaching his students and his ideas about democracy. People thought that he was against democracy, but they could not charge him for that reason. Therefore, they had to use some other reasons, such as teaching the youth bad things and not respecting the gods, to charge him. He was convicted of these charges and sentenced to death after that.

1. Socratic method:
The Socratic Method is the great contribution of Socrates to science. It helps people to see the world around them and affects how they think about it. According to Socratic Method, “to solve a problem, it would be broken down into a series of questions, the answers to which gradually distill the answer you seek.” Through these questions the Socratic Method guides people on a journey of discovery and moves them toward greater understanding. It produces better learning and better solutions because it leads people to explore their thinking and discover answers for themselves. These discoveries make it easier for people to take action because they’ve figured out for themselves what needs to be done, and why.
