Riordan Manufacturing’s goal to increase the effectiveness of the manufacturing process and inventory control will be enhanced by installing an updated centralized database for all functions covering the manufacturing process. Database improvements will (a) reduce costly mistakes caused by incorrectly input information and (b) track received raw material, inventory usage and completed product shipping through the use of implementing a barcode system. With the addition of a barcode system, redundant entering of information will be eliminated, thus reducing labor costs. Upgrading to wireless communication with the use of a wireless a scanner system during the manufacturing process will increase accuracy of orders and create better inventory control.

Executive Summary
Over the past five weeks Learning Team B has completed Service Request SR-rm-001 as requested by Riordan Manufacturing to develop more efficient manufacturing and inventory processes. The findings show incompatible networking, outdated and obsolete hardware and software, and an inventory system that relies on the “pencil-and-paper” method to document raw materials, manufacturing production and the shipping of the final product. Based upon the mission of Riordan Manufacturing, “to be a solution provider for the customers and not be a part of the customer’s challenges” (Riordan, 2008) we make the following recommendations.
