Sci230 Axia Scientific Method Paper Week 1 Day7
...window. Do the plants lean because they respond to the light as a food source? Can the plants get chemicals to them through the glass? Are they just leaning because they are sick? Are the plants trying to get away from some radiation that the computer might put out? I observed the plants leaning, I asked questions about why the plants would lean, now I hypothesize (an educated guess), and predict. If I grow three plants on a motorized turntable with light on one side, and grow three plants that are stationary with light on one side, then I should see a difference or change in the direction the plants are leaning. By using the Scientific Method I can organize my data to observe, question, hypothesize, predict, and experiment to compare results.
If it is true that plants respond to light which they need to make food, and I grow 3 plants on a motorized turntable with light on one side, and grow three plants stationary with light on one side, then I should see a difference in the direction the plants are growing. To test this I grow the plants and observe their behavior. The results of the study show that the plants that were on the turntable grew straight up with the leaves out while the stationary plants were all growing and leaning towards the light. This proves my hypothesis that plants are attracted to the light and therefore grow towards it trying to get the light to help them make nutrients and food.
An example of using the scientific method in my everyday life would deal mostly with scheduling my day. Anything that has an “if I do ----, then----should occur” is potential for using the scientific method. For example if I do my homework early in the day then I will get a better grade because I am not rushing to get it done. I observe first, I am tired and out of energy at night and ready to go to bed. My thoughts are unclear and it seems to take me longer...
