...Finch. Throughout the novel, Scout is faced with many social injustices. These social injustices cause Scout to form different stereotypes about the people in her community. Maycomb is very similar to other communities in that there are different social levels. At the top of Maycomb’s social pyramid is the Finch family. In the novel, I believe, Scout is used to depict the life Harper Lee and relive the injustices that he noticed in his own life. Therefore, a summarization of the novels injustices will be given and in the end tie them to Harper Lee’s life.
Scout’s father, Atticus Finch, heads the Finch family. Atticus is well known and respected by the rest of the Maycomb community. He is a lawyer and father to Scout and her brother Jem. Atticus is also a very wise and sensible man. The Finch family is a relatively well-off family as well. Although this is the way the Maycomb community interprets the Finches, Scout views her family differently. Scout looks up to her father and trusts his judgment along with the rest of Maycomb. Whenever her father has something to tell her, she listens and thinks hard about his wise words. Scout does realize that her family’s economic status is better off than that of many others in the community. This is evident through the way she portrays other families in Maycomb. Scout stereotypes her family as a good family because of their social status. She knows that she and the rest of the community respect her father’s views and wisdom. This causes Scout to stereotype her family at a high level. However, this is not evident with some of the other families in Maycomb (Dave).
