Verb compliment: something that defines the verb.
If you have an infinitive like “to eat” don’t put anything between them.
When the verb describes a state the word that defines the subject is the compliment.

Definition of ‘Ode’ song of praise. It came back into style in the romantic period.

Contrast between mortality and immortality with himself and the nightingale. But the song of the nightingale is what is immortal.
First reaction is surprise because he cannot understand why the bird is so happy.
So the bird has linked him with good things like wine like summer
The bird is poetry
Suffering is his personal and of the world
Ruth is from the bible. She stands in a cornfield homesick for her own people and she heard the same nightingale’s song. So because she was comforted by the same song thousands of years before then the bird must be immortal.
Was it a vision or seeing or a waking dream or day dream. The difference is that a vision is truer. You can use the imagery of doubt to argue it is a day dream because he cant believe what he has experienced therefore he has to ask. The question can also be am I alive or dead because the whole poem is about the in between state and if he is in a visionary state it is because he is in between.
