The British writer Jane Austen (1775- 1817) is most famous for her romantic novels, although she herself never married. She mostly wrote about love, marriage and family conditions. She also wrote about the sense, feelings and social set of the English upper-class and is well known for her humoristic and vivid way of describing her main characters. This may be because she often found inspiration from her own environment. For example, her close relationship with her sister Cassandra is reflected trough Elizabeth and Jane Bennet in “Pride and Prejudice”.
“Pride and Prejudice” is Jane Austen's second novel. It was written between 1796 and 1813, and first published on 28 January 1813. It is a romantic novel about the most wealthy people of the 18th century's England. “Pride and Prejudice” has delighted generations of readers, and is probably the most popular of all Jane Austen's novels.
Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy first meet at a public ball in a town called Meryton. Darcy is tall, handsome and known for his making incredible ten thousand pounds a year. Still, he makes a horrible first-impression by acting proud and above his company.
