The Power Of Cell Phones

Gaining wisdom, which comes from the daily ritual of learning, helps mind develop. Our source of learning is those who can make a significant impact on our lives, such as our professors, parents, friends, or scholars. The advancement of technology has created a dependence on fast-access information that does not allow room for learning. A technological advancement that has hindered learning is the cell phone. Cell phones have different forms of unnecessary applications, such as text messaging and video, which disrupt the classroom setting. Cell phones distract students from learning, and therefore from gaining wisdom.
Today, the majority of students from elementary school to college carry a cell phone. It is quite understandable for a person who attends high school or college to carry a cell phone, but why must kids under the age of twelve carry a device that can distract the young mind? Twelve year olds must focus on academics and obedience in order to gain trust and privileges. These advantages can include socializing with friends without supervision, or owning a car. These advantages come as time proceeds, but the point is that twelve year olds don’t need a cell phone. Focusing on education should be the main priority of their daily ritual. The danger of having a cell phone at a young age would lead towards trouble, such as failing school, becoming involved with gangs or drug dealing.
Within the classroom, cell phones detract from our ability to learn. During an important time of lecture from a professor, often a student receives text messages from his friends. One simple text message can pull a student away from his learning time. The majority of the time, professors announce and discuss important values such as tips to prepare for a test, or pieces of a reading that can inspire the way we think and act.
