Persuasive Techniques
..."Jana needs to lift her game", Robin Reily, published in the Sunday Herald on the 19th of March 2006, displays the writers opinion on Jana Pittman and the way in which she is performing in front of the media. Robin Reily uses a bias and yet confrontational tone in order to display the author's opinion towards this issue. Robin Reily uses a number of persuasive techniques in order to persuade the audience. These techniques include evidence, examples, questioning the audience, using personal terms and talking directly to Jana.

Evidence-
"Pittman was to have carried the baton on its final leg to Melbourne Town Hall, but chose to handball the honour to sprinter Lauren Hewitt."
"Even the threat to move to London is misguided. Threatening to take your bat and ball and run away from home is no way to earn public sympathy."
This positions the audience to believe what the author is putting forward
The evidence backs up how self-centered Jana is seen to the author and therefore is now expressed to the audience.
