From Honolulu, Hawaii to Chicago Illinois Americas first black candidate for president arose. Barack Obama, a man most people describe as being a person who thinks on camera and presents un manufactured ideas to the public ( Cole, Harriet) .
Early Life
Obama was born August 4th, 1961, to Barack Obama Sr. and Ann Dunham. Obama Sr. was a black Kenyan of Nyang’ oma Kogela, Siaya District Kenya and Ms. Dunham was a white American from Wichita, Kansas. The two met while attending the University of Hawaii (keepandshare.com) and later separated and divorced when Barack was only two years old. In 1982 Obama Sr. died, in a car crash, seeing Barack only once before his death. Following the divorce in 1967, Ann Dunham and the family moved to Indonesia with her new husband Lolo Soetoro including Obama’ s half sister Maya Soetoro-Ng, who is currently a teacher and professor in Honolulu, (keepandshare.com) . While in Indonesia, Barack attended local schools in Jakarta until age ten, when he moved back to Hawaii with his grandparent’s. While living with his grandparents he attended Punahou School from the fifth grade in 1971 until his high school graduation in 1979 (wikipedia.com). Following high school, Obama moved to Los Angeles where he attended Occidental College for two years. After attending Occidental College he transferred to Columbia University in New York City and political science and
international relations were his major and minor. In 1983 he graduated from Columbia with a B.A. degree and went on to
work for the New York Public Interest Research Group and Business International Corporation (wikipedia.com).
