Electricity:
Chemical results in brain due to learning
Neuron-neurotransmitters-axon (chemicals) –space in between neurons: synapse—then, next neuron.
How to know that there is a chemical change in brain? Using animals, studying death people’s brain composition, Alzheimer’s, brain after learning something,
-taking typical chemicals to improve learning: coffee, alcohol,…have good sleep so will be able to retrieve info that was encoded night before.
Parts of brain:
Hippocampus: responsible for normal learning (relaxed learning) but not when threatened
Amygdala: remember frightened experiences
How to know what is happening inside brain?
• Measure electrical activity by putting electrodes in brain and see what happens while thinking or learning something specific. See how that particular neuron is fired.
10 to 15 billion neurons in brain
• Using MRI (orientation of cells when doing different kind of things)
• PET scan (measures oxygen in brain, look people who have injury in certain part of the brain)

Behavioral characteristics:
What is the difference when trying to remember something that just happened or something that happened 4 days ago?
Within the last five seconds or so, I still get sensory qualities ( voice, colors) while the other one is more like feelings about it.
Be consciously aware of something: that part is activated in your brain instead of in resting state.
