Of Mice And Men
...are two very hard working men but never had a normal life because of Lennies’ mental problem. Lennie was a big guy but because of he’s problem he acted like a child, he was really nice, but he was also very strong and didn’t really recognize when he was doing something wrong, he likes to pet soft things, like mice and puppies, but he is very strong and often kills his delicate pets. George was the opposite, he was small and mature. George’s relationship with Lennie was very caring; they were like father and son. They plan to start working at a new ranch to be able to start a new life and make their dream of a future farm come true. When they get to the new ranch they make friend with old Candy but also enemies with Curley. Candy whose dog is old, in pain and is stinky, Carlson keeps pressuring Candy to kill him because he’s really old and stinks the whole bunkhouse, at first he refuses, but he eventually agrees with Carlson and lets him kill the dog. Lennie gets in trouble once again because of killing Curley’s wife. Knowing he has done something bad, he goes to the hiding place by the stream. George knew where Lennie is hiding and goes looking for him. He tells Lennie to look across the river and imagine their little farm. George begins to make him feel comfortable and tells the story about their future, George shoots Lennie at the back of his head. This is similar to what happened to Candy’s dog, they didn’t do it for hate, but for love, they didn’t want to see their friends in pain. Mercy killing is not bad because they didn’t do it to see a person suffering but to protect them from pain.
Lennie was killed by his best friend, George did it because it was the only way he knew Lennie wouldn’t have to go through torture from Curley. George wouldn’t be able to run away with Lennie because sooner or later they would find them and it would be worse for both....
