If it weren't for Martin Luther King, many blacks today would still live the lives as slaves, as well as under the harsh rules they used to follow. On December 1, 1960 he joined the Montgomery bus boycott, after Rosa Parks had been arrested. On December 5, he was elected president of the Montgomery Improvement association. Delivered his most famous speech on the Lincoln Memorial steps "I have a dream", this touched many young and old blacks searching for freedom. Martin Luther King made such a great impact on his society that he received the Noble peace prize, on December 10, 1964. Martin Luther King Jr. gave up his job as a minister, to focus 100% to help fight the civil rights act. On June 23, 1963, Martin Luther King, walked the freedom walk with 125,000 people. Where later made his famous "I have a dream" speech. On January 3, 1964, Martin Luther King was crowned Time Magazines man of the year. Later on that month attended the signing of the Civil Rights Act. Martin Luther King went through the same harsh incidents as all the other black did; he was arrested during a voting for rights demonstration. In 1963 Martin Luther King was named the American of the decade.
