Martin Luther King was born Michael Luther King, Jr., but later had his name changed to Martin. He was born into a family of a long line of pastors, and became his fathers co-paster up until the death of his father. Martin Luther attended segregated public schools in Georgia, graduating from high school at the age of fifteen; he received the B. A. degree in 1948 from Morehouse College, a pretigious Negro institution of Atlanta from which both his father and grandfather had graduated. After three years of theological study at Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania, he was elected president of a predominantly white senior class, and recieved the B.D. martin then enrolled in graduate studies at Boston University, receiving the degree in 1955. It was here Martin met his and married Coretta Scot; a woman to whom King could not connect to intellectually or artistically. Two sons and two daughters were born into the family.
In 1954, Martin Luther King decided to follow the footsteps of his father and
grandfathers; and become the pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in
Montgomery, Alabama. By this time, Martin was involved in fighting for the
civil rights of his fellow african americans, and was a member of the executive
committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People,
the only organisation of its kind. The following December, King agreed to lead
