Lord Of Flies Summary
...the start
• The whole event of the plane crash and the boys being stranded didn’t seem to bother him
• He wanted the boys to fear him, he hurt animals as a hobby, not for human survival and when he does hunt for food, he kills like a barbaric animal, enjoying his catch and toying with his prey, the screams and cowers of the animal alone seem to satisfy his appetite.
• He bullied the ‘litluns’ and killed Piggy
• His barbaric nature revealed itself from the beginning.
• The killing of animals seem to please him so maybe the murder of Piggy was more of his own desire to kill or at least see what would happen if he got injured. Cruel and sadistic.
Simon
• Simon is the complete opposite of Roger, he is the epitome of kindness, peace and love
• Shy and sensitive, was the only ‘naturally’ good character on the island
• He is the only character who’s sense of morality is not lost throughout the novel
• Simon is related to being a Christ-like figure, his purity resulted in his death
• He was sensitive, scared to voice himself and didn’t want the boys to ridicule him
• Simon was the only boy who realized that the Lord of the Flies itself was a part of evil within every man and it is inherent, that there was no monster and that the boys were themselves the monster. This is the same time when the sow’s head said to him ‘lets play a game’ and this resulted in his death soon after.
• Simon in a way was so pure that just like Christ, he forgave the boys for what they were about to do. He did not fight while being attacked and his death was one so natural where he became one with nature, his body floated off into the ocean which symbolized that not only was he one with nature again but he was one with God.
