...& Mei have decided to offer a class to all interested employees who want to learn more about our American Legal System. In addition, this class is a start to a new beginning and we are hoping we can start to offer classes like this one in the future to our existing and future employees through our human resource department.
My most important element in this class will be about the understanding of law. We will be learning about the foundation of law, structure, legislative, constitutional, criminal, and how each is important and the process and/or procedures of the law. However, my major element will be focus on the Criminal aspects of the law.
Legal Understandings of Our American Legal System
What is law? Law is a binding custom or practice of a community: a rule of conduct or action prescribed or formally recognized as binding or enforced by a controlling authority. What is law in the legal system? Law is a system of rules, usually enforced through a set of institutions. It shapes politics, economics and society in numerous ways. Contract law regulates everything from buying a bus ticket to trading swaptions on a derivatives market. Property law defines rights and obligations related to transfer and title of personal and real property, for instance, in mortgaging or renting a home. Trust law applies to assets held for investment and financial security, such as pension funds. Tort law allows claims for compensation when someone or their property is injured or harmed. If the harm is criminalized in a penal code, criminal law offers means by which the state prosecutes and punishes the perpetrator. Constitutional law provides a framework for creating laws, protecting people's human rights, and electing political representatives.
