In today's world, supply chain efficiency plays an important role in a company's success. Many organizations have enjoyed considerable success due to an effective supply chain. Kuiper Leda is an electronic components manufacturer faced with a growth opportunity. However, the company has not implemented effective supply chain practices in place to manage its supply chain process. Within this paper, benchmarking will be used to identify some possible strategies and practices of the supply chain management. This will allow Kuiper Leda the opportunity to analyze methods used by other companies to optimize its supply chain efficiency.
Domestic and global best practices in supply chain management
There are many factors to consider when implementing domestic and global best practices in supply chain management. In order to compete and operate effectively and produce high quality products in a timely manner, while maintaining inventory and operational management control, there must be effective systems in place.
Supply chain management for Kuiper Leda consists of six steps. Kuiper Leda's internal supply chain begins by turning raw material into subcomponents, and then into components. After components are produced, assembly of product through sub-assembly, assembly, and production of final product occur through internal operations.
Managing the supply chain from a global and domestic standpoint begin with quality and quantity control of purchasing, receiving, and inventory management from suppliers of raw material. Global management of the beginning of the supply chain will be more challenging initially than domestic management due to language barriers, communication issues, operational variances, working with new companies, potential for timing of delivery issues.
