I will be covering its history, who invented it, where it was invented and when it was invented. I will also be discussing about its changes throughtout the history. I will then discuss the impact of the invention to the rest of world, and also list its advantages and disadvantages.
Paper is thin material mainly used for writing upon, printing upon or packaging. It is produced by pressing together moist fibers, typically cellulose pulp derived from wood, rags or grasses, and drying them into flexible sheets.
History
A.D. 105
Paper was invented during the Han Dynasty, by a courtier named Ts'ai-Lun, from Lei-yang in China in circa A.D. 105 He invented paper from textile waste using rags. This can be considered as the birth of paper as we know it today. Later, the Chinese papermakers further developed papermaking, developing sized, coated and dyed paper, and paper protected against ravages by insects.
A.D. 610
During the A.D. 610 the Chinese papermaking techniques has reached Korea and was introduced in Japan in the year 610. Soon, the knowledge of papermaking spread throughout to Central Asia and Tibet then onto India. When the Arabs learned of the technique of papermaking, they developed a type of paper with screens made of reeds, thin sheets were made and then ‘coated’ with starch paste. This gave Arabian paper its good writing properties and fine appearance.
When the export of Arabian-made paper, along with the secrets of its production, reached Europe, especially Italy, they further improved the Arabian technique by improving the papermaking process.
