" There are some that can live without wild things and some that cannot "
Aldo Leopold.

A. Introduction.

Ecologists and Biologists both believe that monitoring and maintenance of our environment and our many species is essential for a healthy world, present and future, as well as, a long-term economic well being for man. Biologists know that all living and non-living things on earth are all connected in a healthy type of “life web” and if this web is altered or damaged than biological consequences will occur. For instance the pollution of the coastal waters of Florida is killing the coral reefs along the Florida Keys, which serve as habitat for hundreds of species of fish. These fish have now rapidly declined because the coral reefs are disappearing. So it is with many of our species today. They are dwindling because their environments and life webs are being threatened. Biologists have formed 4 main classifications for these plants and animals to better monitor their survival. These four classifications are as follows. Vulnerable species- is a species particularly at risk because of low or declining numbers or small range, but not a threatened species. Threatened species- is a species whose population is not yet low enough to be in immediate danger of extinction, but who certainly faces serious problems. If the problems affecting these species aren’t resolved, it is probable that the species will become endangered. Endangered species- is a specie, plant or animal that is in immediate danger of becoming extinct. Its numbers are usually low, and it needs protection in order to survive....
