European Industrialization
...of social and economic changes which changes the nation to an industrial based society. Throughout the years, scholars agreed that Europe was the breeding ground for this type of change. People have even gone so far as to coin the phrase “Industrial Revolution” to describe the major changes of going to a more machine based society that were happening throughout European nations in the later eighteenth and nineteenth century. With this new type of society many European citizens’ lifestyles were changing, although some of these changes were not for the better. Many European had to move from their homes to uproot their lives to find jobs. These new industrial jobs had bad working conditions and employed people (women and children) who were not generally categorized as fit for factory work. Many scholars see the Industrial Revolution for its advanced in technology and a more efficient lifestyle but, there are many hidden evils that take place at this time in Europe.
In the late eighteenth century, European nations began to make the switch from agricultural based society to an industrial society. With more people in the European nation using their excess income on consumer goods, the need for more of these goods became obvious. Britain was the first nation to see this transformation take place. There are several types of reasons why such industrial concentra¬tions were found in Britain in the mid-eighteenth century, among the most important was the location of natural resources. Other factors included its superior ships, a growth in population, and the government’s Laissez-Faire policy toward private business. With an increasing demand of these consumer goods from Britain’s colonies as well as the vast amount of natural resources contained in Britain’s colonies, it made the decision easy for Britain to go toward an industrial based society.
