They are now known all over the United States and in the past few years have gone global in their online and ground campuses. “The mission of University of Phoenix is to provide access to higher education opportunities that enable students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve their professional goals, improve the productivity of their organization and provide leadership and service to their communities.” (University of Phoenix, 2008, p. 1)
Recently, the well established company has decided to relocate their online campus to Kava, an island in the South Pacific. Kava has a large ethnic mix along with over fifty percent of the population under the age of fifteen. This means that less than half of the population has the potential to work in their communities. They produce and provide several products such as; petroleum, coffee, cocoa, spices, bananas, sugar…etc. One of the largest downfalls of the country is that they are victim to many natural disasters, some of which are; tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and much more.
There are going to be several pro’s and con’s associated with the move. On the positive side, the company will enrich the country of Kava. With the large number of students that the University of Phoenix online campus has, it takes many employees to keep things running smoothly. While the economy will flourish with the new found job market, the university will be able to take advantage of the lower working wage. The company will be able to hire more employees at a smaller rate, saving the company thousands of dollars each month and year.
