The 800 number will direct emails, and phone calls to a branch in the US, and the branch manager will relay the message to Alex or me that a customer is requesting a worker. Chris, Alex and I determined that the most cost effective option is to build a full size branch.
Labor Ready has made the decision to expand to Kava in order to support and promote the economy of that nation. We believe that option one (build a new Labor Ready Branch in Kava) most closely aligns with this goal by allowing the current island residents to support the venture and work in an income-generating environment. We do not believe that option two (build a satellite office) is a viable option, mainly due to the lack of opportunity for future expansion and growth, and due to the burden it puts on other branches.
The project presents us with three major factors affecting implementation: company image, technology and the environment. Labor Ready is known for our on demand labor, and work today, get paid today logo and our “WE PUT PEOPLE TO WORK” mission statement. To ensure that the building of a new branch in a foreign country is not seen as a lowering of company standards, the office in Kava will be used only for our foreign labor. The next challenge that Labor Ready will face is the technology that will be needed. Labor Ready is intranet networked in over 850 branches within the USA. Connecting an offshore database to a U.S. network will be difficult. Fortunately, many local businesses on Kava have networks already created, and our MIT department will be able to use their knowledge and combine that with their skills.
