ABSTRACT

The proposed research will be on the effectiveness of law enforcement installed and monitored neighborhood surveillance cameras on deterring crime and decreasing the violent crime in urban neighborhoods. Due to the potential of crime being committed in urban neighborhoods, it is planned to study the effects of crime surveillance to where much of the time citizens are reluctant or to be honest scared to notify police and report crime when they witness it happening. Through educating the citizens about this project, listening to their concerns or perception of crime and allowing them to become part of the study is vital to its results. It is the intention to install, and monitor crime surveillance cameras throughout the urban core to measure the success or failures in reducing crime and providing better living conditions in the community. Data will be collected by surveying citizens, police officers and politicians, as well as data comparisons of daily uniform crime reporting statistics. It is my belief that the project will be successful by allowing citizens to participate in the study by monitoring cameras and reporting crime.
