...so rightly deserve? Times have changed and so has the learning experience. The art student now has the option of staying home and taking online classes to get their degree or going to a campus for the traditional learning experience.
Online learning can be very beneficial to the busy artist. Most single parents with full time jobs choose the online learning experience so that they have the option of being very flexible. Being able to work on a painting or a drawing while cooking dinner or working on a project while the children sleep can really help with scheduling conflicts. Gone are the days of falling asleep in a boring classroom environment. Multi-tasking is now a valid option. For the up and coming art student who is shy, online learning gives them the option of being more confident in turning in artwork. No more frightening hand raising experiences leading to questions un-answered.
Along with having access to classes that may not be in the area that the student lives in, there are many resources available. Visual aides such as PowerPoint presentations, multimedia and hypertext aid in the online learning experience. Scanners and digital cameras are used to turn in the artwork that the student completes. Tutors and websites are available at the click of a mouse. Artwork can be shared and critiqued with ease without embarrassing face to face contact.
Conflicts can arise from online learning. Art instruction is a hands on experience most of the time. When the traditional classroom student is stumped with a brushstroke they will be able to turn to the instructor for an example. The online student on the other hand will get no visual aid on a particular stroke, but only the basic outline of work to be completed.
