...Education has always been classroom taught until recently. We now have online schools that implement group participation and virtual teams. Virtual environments are considered to be web-based, email, forums, and chat rooms. (Corria, 2008) With this being the current form of education for many adult learners this leaves the door open for communication err due to faulty equipment, personality differences and lack of communication. In an educational institution it is pertinent that the students understand the virtual aspect of learning and the communicational gaps that may be encountered and how to improve them. Knowing how to resolve communication gaps and or misunderstanding will help improve not only the learning process but their own communication skills for their future endeavors.
As stated most learning is done virtually due to the adult learner and time constraints for full time workers. A team is a relationship and even though there is no personal relationship involved it tends to develop due to the intensity of the projects assigned and having to rely on one another for support to accomplish the task. Therefore when there is a conflict it causes a negative relational team based conflict. (Corria, 2008) Identifying and understanding the issues is the first step to dissolving the issue. Example: Currently an issue has arisen with “Team B” that must work together to accomplish research, organization of information and preparation for a final paper. Some participants are unreceptive to input or suggestions which is cause for team conflict lack of communication and team work. Each team member is located in a different areas they are not co-located within one continent.
