…choices in careers I realized that I wanted to have a career in the medical field. Being a nurse interests me because it requires the study of the human body along with other great opportunities that nurses have in this career. I want to become a nurse because I like being able to help those who are in need.
Once I stared researching a career in nursing I realized that there were a lot more types of nurses then I had originally thought. This confused me because there was a nurse for almost everything! Then I finally decided on one and that was being a Registered Nurse (RN). A Registered Nurse is not a doctor assistant; a RN gets to treat wounds, give IV’s (intravenous) and basically get to treat their own patients.
I am inspired by my cousin who wanted to have a career in nursing but didn’t have the opportunity, so it’s almost as if I am trying to accomplish this for her. I am trying my best to pursue and accomplish this goal of mine in hopes that I do have the opportunity that my cousin didn’t: to be a Registered Nurse. Right now my main priority is to keep my dream alive and make my parents proud.
Most Registered Nurses work directly with the patients and their families. They are the families’ contact with the medical world, in the hospital and at the patients’ home. A nurse does frequent evaluations of the patient and check vital signs to make sure everything is going as planned. Nurses perform procedures such as IV placement, phlebotomy (process of taking blood samples from the patient) and administering medications. Working hours for a nurse are different almost all the time because no one can predict when an emergency is going to happen.
